WordPress is actually made with about 5 database tables, compared to Drupal's 50 (or whatever). I think it's a little funny when people compare Drupal to WordPress, because WordPress doesn't have some of the basic things that Drupal has, such as: Sessions, ACL, Database api, and a Form api. I do more ZendFramework than anything, actually. I know enough about Drupal / WordPress / ZendFramework to leave an opinion. if Drupal is a framework, and I need a list of specific functionalities, what is the advantage to learning the inner workings of Drupal vs learning a no shit PHP framework? Because, I've found functionality nearly identical (speaking of WP vs Drupal) when using plugins and modules. The "you don't need to know how to code" argument is mute when you compare Drupal to other CMS's. I've heard people talk about Drupal as a framework more than a CMS, and I can see why. But, as a non-profecient coder, I can't really take advantage of that. However, I see the greater flexibility in Drupal's system. In fact, Wordpress actually has a few more of the critical functionalities specific to my business model from a data standpoint. I can get Wordpress to do pretty much the same things I can get in Drupal with plugins and modules, etc. out of the box, Drupal and Wordpress are (for a non-coder) functionally identical. Brilliant! However, I always seem to run into areas where custom development is needed - some critical functionality is missing or outside the capabilities of "x" module. Custom content types, views, panels, taxonomy, custom user permissions, etc. I taught myself CSS and HTML about six months ago and have been working with Drupal for about four months attempting to build a website with some pretty granular functional specs based on my business model.Ĭonceptually, Drupal seems like the absolutely perfect tool.
